Hello Everyone! :)

So techempage and I took the girls to the Ren Faire this past weekend. It was a blast. One of us may eventually get around to writing about it and posting some pictures at some point soon-ish.

Anyway.. the whole thing got me thinking about getting involved in the SCA again. Which also got me thinking about trying my hand at sewing again. I never really learned much. I had a bad experience with making a dress (that I thought turned out well for a first try!) and then my mother decided to belittle my attempt because I didn't finish the seams.

I have been poking around looking for an affordable sewing machine. I found a really really afordable one thanks to mnfiddledragon. I almost stopped by target tonight to pick it up. But lo and behold apparently one of my coworkers has a Singer that she is willing to *give* me because she never uses it. YAY!

So I guess my question to all of you, is what sort of tips and suggestions do you have for someone just learning how to sew garb? I have a pattern for a Sideless Surcoat and a coathardie. I'm pretty sure the pattern includes a basic chemise type thing too. I wanted to make sure to have stuff that could be made big and belted so they could wear it for a while rather than fitted so they would grow out of it quickly.

So... YAY! I'm excited. If I can manage to teach myself how to sew decently enough on their stuff I may try to make some of my own.

So sometime in the last week or two I put in an application for the Step Moms community here on LJ - thinking that it may help me realize I'm not alone in some of the issues I've been having. All of the books I've read have stressed how important it is to find camaraderie with other step moms.

I was denied. Because I haven't posted often enough. WTF? I'm on LJ daily. I comment on my friend's journals and support them. But apparently because I don't post much I'm not good enough.

I am looking for the old school sticker books. The kind that don't come with a bunch of theme stickers like Princesses or Harry Potter.. etc. They were mainly just a bunch of laminated pages with neat designs - to put your sticker collection in. Do they make those anymore?

... granted that is just about everyone.

So early this morning before work I was checking my web comics as per my usual routine while waiting for techempage and his two girls to get out the door so I could actually get into the shower...

I happen to be reading Ctrl+Alt+Del when the older one (LG as her daddy calls her) comes over to give me hugs and kisses. She looks at my screen and excitedly points at one of the characters (Ethan) and exclaims - He's from Wintereenmas!!

My inner geek beamed with pride so I had to share ;)

Wow... It seems like just weeks ago that we were all frolicing around Bartlet hall and taking painting classed together. Where did the time go?!?!

I went out to dinner and a movie tonight with my roommates and some friends I haven't seen in a long time. After the movie we are all standing outside the theater talking about all sorts of geeky topics as is wont to happen amongst my circle of friends. Not 10 feet away there is a small group of young (Id say maybe 16 years old?) emo-esq folks. About 10 minutes later they get up from their table and walk a bit farther away. When this happens I comment to the group " Wow, we must have been laughing too much, we drove the Emo crowd out. To which I got a nearly immediate response of ... " No, they just realized they are looking at themselves in 20 years! "

Even funnier, after this comment and our raucous laugher they dispersed completely.

No one else may care, but I found it amusing.

I have a small problem. Okay, maybe not so small. I cannot stand my roommates husband. I couldn't stand him while they were dating and I cannot stand him now. He is a sloven, immature gamer geek who does nothing but pour over gaming books and leach off of others. I also generally think hes a dick to my roommate and that the marriage won't last more than 2 years. but that's another story completely.

Now don't get me wrong. I AM a gamer. Unfortunately there is a class of gamer out there that thinks about nothing else except possibly work - and even then they probably daydream about it. He falls into this category. Ive seen him plant his ass on the couch and play on his Nintendo DS while everyone else in the house scurries about getting the house ready for a party.

He moved in with us after the wedding (November 10th). The theory is that our lease isn't up until the end of February (or March, I need to check). Rather than the roommate leaving and putting myself and the third roommate into a difficult financial situation - or finding another roommate for a short period of time.

I am finding it more difficult to deal with him on a regular basis than I had imagined. He is just as much of a slob. He is just as much of a leach. As far as I know he has yet to pay for anything he consumes (soda, food... etc) or help out with housework in any way shape or form.

His wife caters to him when she cooks all of the time now. He has a limited selection of foods that he will eat. Which isn't a big deal on it's own. I've gotten rather used to that since someone I know is a rather picky eater himself. It just sucks to know she makes so many other things that I really like - and knowing we wont have them again before I move out. It will be hot dogs, brats and spaghetti for the next 2 months. Wheeee.

The sooner I can get out of here the better. I am more than a little tempted to get a storage unit and get my shit out of here and claim to be 'sleeping on the couch' for the time being.

Anyway. Cookies to those that have gotten this far. I needed to vent.

So I was chatting with an old DAoC friend via AIM earlier this evening. He asks where Im living these days. I tell him Im still in North Carolina, and ask if he is still in New York? His response was ... not exactly what I expected. Apparently he is now living in North Carolina as well. So my next question is... where in NC? After all it is a large state. His response... Raleigh! It's a small small world.

I guess I will be going out for dinner with he and his girlfriend some night soon (someone else I know from DAoC). If only I can convince techempage to try indian food.

So on a whim I reactivated dark age of camelot tonight for the first time in probably 2 years. I thought to myself ... hey, I will catch up with some old friends, things will be great! I log in and check /gc who (guild)....  Im not IN a guild anymore. The person who took it over must have decided to cut some dead weight. Oh well. /who all shows... two people on that specific server. Wow. Talk about an utter waste of $15.

I'm trying to find a bluetooth headset that will work with an iphone.. the more I look.. the more overwhelmed I get because I dont know whats good. Anyone have some suggestions?
